Breathing with Time
A practice to slow the inner clock and find rhythm in the breath. An invitation to inhabit the present moment with gentleness.
How to practice
- 1
Find a comfortable position, sitting or lying down. Close your eyes and notice the weight of your body supported by the ground.
- 2
Observe your natural breath for a few cycles, without trying to change anything. Simply feel the air entering and leaving.
- 3
Begin to gently lengthen your exhale, letting the air leave a little more slowly than usual. Don't force it—just allow.
- 4
On your next inhale, count mentally to 4. At the pause, count to 2. On the exhale, count to 6. Feel the rhythm settling in.
- 5
Continue this cycle for a few minutes, noticing how your body responds. If the mind wanders, bring it back to the counting of the breath.
- 6
To close, release the counting and return to your natural breath. Stay in silence for a few moments, feeling the calm that has settled.
When to use
In moments of agitation, before an important meeting, or when you need to create a mindful pause in the middle of the day.
Tip
If the counting feels uncomfortable, reduce the numbers: inhale to 3, pause for 1, exhale to 5. The key is the gentle lengthening of the exhale.
