Breathing with the Night
An invitation to let your body follow the slow rhythm of the night. With each breath, you draw closer to rest without rushing, simply allowing.
How to practice
- 1
Lie on your back and rest one hand on your belly, feeling the gentle movement of your breath.
- 2
Breathe in through your nose counting to four, as if the night were entering slowly through your pores.
- 3
Release the air through your mouth counting to six, letting your body sink a little deeper into the mattress.
- 4
Repeat this cycle for a few breaths, without pushing a rhythm — just follow along.
- 5
With each exhale, imagine you are handing the day over to the soft darkness around you.
- 6
When you feel ready, let the counting go and simply breathe at your natural pace.
When to use
At bedtime, when your mind is still restless and your body is asking for a slower rhythm.
Tip
If counting gets in the way, swap it for a gentle word with each exhale, like 'release' or 'stay'.
