Open Horizon Breathing
An invitation to breathe like someone watching the sea from afar: an inhale that expands, a brief pause, and an exhale that stretches out like the horizon line.
How to practice
- 1
Sit or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes if you like and let your body find its weight.
- 2
Inhale through your nose counting to four, feeling the air come in like a wave approaching slowly.
- 3
Take a short pause, one or two seconds, without holding your breath — just resting in the fullness.
- 4
Exhale through your mouth or nose counting to six, letting the air leave like the tide pulling back without hurry.
- 5
Repeat this cycle for a few breaths, without counting how many. If the mind wanders, return to the next inhale.
When to use
In moments of mental restlessness, before sleep, or when you need to slow down without going anywhere.
Tip
If the six-count exhale feels too long, try five. The rhythm is yours, not a rule.
