Slow Wave Breathing
A practice to slow down your inner rhythm, following your breath like watching the ebb and flow of a wave in the sea. An invitation to let go of the day's weight.
How to practice
- 1
Find a comfortable position, sitting or lying down. Gently close your eyes and place one hand on your abdomen.
- 2
Inhale through your nose, counting slowly to four. Feel your abdomen expand like a wave rising toward the shore.
- 3
At the top of the inhale, pause briefly and naturally, like the moment a wave hangs before breaking.
- 4
Exhale through your mouth with relaxed lips, counting to six. Let the air leave slowly, like water receding back to the sea.
- 5
Repeat this cycle for a few minutes, allowing the exhale to become naturally longer with each round. If your mind wanders, bring your attention back to the movement of your abdomen.
- 6
To finish, let go of the counting and breathe spontaneously for a few moments. Notice the stillness that remains after the practice.
When to use
Ideal for moments of agitation, before sleep, or when you need to slow down and reconnect with your body.
Tip
If you like, place one hand on your heart and the other on your abdomen. This helps bring a sense of warmth and presence.
