Sea Breeze Breathing

A practice to feel the rhythm of your breath like waves that arrive and dissolve into the sand. An invitation to slow down and simply be.

How to practice

  1. 1

Find a comfortable position, sitting or lying down. Close your eyes and notice the weight of your body supported by the ground.

  2. 2

Inhale through your nose, slowly and deeply, imagining the tide rising and bringing fresh air to the top of your lungs.

  3. 3

At the top of the inhale, pause briefly and naturally, like the moment a wave stops before turning back.

  4. 4

Exhale through your mouth or nose, softly and lengthened, feeling the tide recede and your body let go a little more.

  5. 5

Continue this rhythm for a few minutes, noticing the sensations of the air entering and leaving, with no rush to change anything.

  6. 6

To finish, release the rhythm and simply observe your breath as it is, for a few more moments, before opening your eyes.

When to use

Use when you need to slow down, in moments of mild anxiety, or before sleep to quiet the mind.

Tip

If you lose the rhythm, don't worry. Just bring your attention back to the next inhale, like watching the next wave arrive.
