Listening to the Wind in the Leaves

A practice to attune your ears to the subtle movement of air and leaves, inviting the mind to rest in the sonic texture of the present moment.

How to practice

  1. 1

Find a place where you can hear the wind, even if it's gentle. Close your eyes and bring your attention to your skin, feeling the temperature and touch of the air.

  2. 2

Gradually, direct your listening to the sounds around you. Don't search for anything specific; just let the noises come to you, like waves that come and go.

  3. 3

Now, focus specifically on the sound of the wind. Notice how it varies: sometimes stronger, sometimes almost silent. Perceive what it touches—leaves, branches, surfaces.

  4. 4

When you notice your mind has drifted into thoughts, gently return to the texture of the wind. Use your breath as an anchor, feeling the air entering and leaving.

  5. 5

To finish, widen your listening again to all the sounds of the environment. Allow the wind and the noises to blend into a unique soundscape, without judgment.

  6. 6

Gradually, bring your attention back to your body and to the room. Open your eyes when you feel ready, carrying this quality of listening into the rest of your day.

When to use

Ideal for moments of mental agitation, outdoors or near a window, when you need to slow down and reconnect with your surroundings.

Tip

If there's no natural wind, try listening to the sound of a fan or a white noise app as a starting point.
